What We Do
Back to Back is a registered charity. It was setup by scientists and clinicians with a common interest in intervertebral disc research with the aim of increasing knowledge of all aspects of the disc's biology, physiology and pathophysiology in order to increase understanding of the disc’s involvement in low back pain.
To promote research into the properties of the normal and degenerate disc, Back to Back holds mainly informal discussion meetings. It particularly welcomes presentations of work-in-progress from research students and early-career scientists. It also occasionally holds more formal meetings around a specific research topic.
Back to Back, also offers small research support awards for pilot studies, for equipment, for travel visits to meetings or to other laboratories, and for other areas of research support.

Back to Back Research-Support Awards
B2B is now able to offer small grants, up to a maximum of £20,000, for support of research which fosters its aims of promoting research into all matters relating to the normal and pathological intervertebral disc, including the role of the disc and other spinal structures in the development of low back pain.
These grants cover aspects of research support such as salaries, equipment, consumables, travel to relevant meetings or to learn a new technique; they will not cover overhead costs. As these awards are made possible by funding from the Oswestry Disability Index (ODI), applications involving the ODI may be given preference.
Applicants should be based at UK universities, NHS trusts or other research institutes in the UK.
Information about applying for a grant can be obtained from <Secretary.BacktoBack@gmail.com>
